Some time back was an event organized by young math wiz Ethan Brown to raise funds for his local library.  The event was a success and Ethan was honored by the library.

Comic Book News

Sales of the paper copies of comic books are way up.  And gay characters are coming out and/or getting married.  Which is cool.

Bigfoot Again

Another piece of crap video that may be of bigfoot, but it's so lousy it could be anything.  A guy in a gorilla suit, for instance.  And the "experts" from NOT Finding Bigfoot are on the way.  They'll surely get to the bottom of it.

Jesus In A Shower?

A family of modest means believes they can see the face of Jesus in the mold on their shower.  I believe they need to clean their shower.

The Transit Of Venus

 

It's happening this week.  Venus' orbit will have it moving across the face of the sun and, with proper precautions you should be able to see it as it happens.

A Look At Sports

I started out the show talking about the perfect game pitched by Chicago White Sox pitcher, Philip Humber, earlier in the day. Very cool. I also got around to mentioning the big comeback win by the Yankees over the Red Sox.

Sick Talk

Both my son, Hayden, and I were sick last week. He missed three days of school, I missed none days of work. Kids got it so easy.

Jesus Christ!

The other day I found a flyer by our front door. The flyer was from some Christian group inviting us to some church event of something of that nature. The front of the flyer depicted Jesus as a baby, on the cross and as the ascended king of kings. Oh, and also as a white guy!

That led me to talk about what Jesus would have looked like, if he actually had existed. I mentioned two attempts to depict Jesus as he might have appeared: one done using forensic methods, including archaeological, anthropological, genetic evidence; the other using the Shroud of Turin and computer technology.

The first seems to me to be very likely. The Shroud based face still seemed a little too European looking. Which makes sense, because it's very likely that the Shroud is a artifact created in Europe in the 14th century.

I even talked a bit about the possibility that Jesus might not have even existed. In talking about that I referred to an argument made by the late, ardent atheist, Christopher Hitchens. You can hear his take here.

A Very Good Reason Not To Vote Republican
Well, at least not for Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen. Why not? Well, she thinks the earth is only 6000 years old.

(A moment of stunned silence.)

It's true! She's on record saying so right here. ARGH!

I gave a list of several human (and our ancestors') achievements that all took place before 6000 years ago. Such as, spears, rope, pottery, and beer! I pulled that list from here and here.

Movie Recommendation: Monty Python's Life Of Brian (1979)

Homemade Films

A brilliant comedy by Monty Python satirizing the life of Jesus. It follows Brian as he is mistaken for being the long-awaited messiah. "I am not the messiah!" "You are the messiah, I should know! I've followed a few!" Brilliant.

Tau 2000 Library Fundraiser
Chris Brown's son Ethan is putting on an event to benefit his local library. The event is tied in with the number Tau (6.28) which is 2 x Pi (3.14). Ethan will be attempting to recite from memory Tau out to 2000 places and people can pledge a certain amount per digit to help his library. The event is to take place May 6, 2012.

Here's what I managed to get to this week.

Correction

For the third week in a row, I went on about the whole Immaculate Conception and Jesus being born without sin thing. During the past week I talked to Father Mark Hubberty. He confirmed the sinless nature of the Virgin Mary and Jesus. He also told me the Jesus was baptized to make the ritual holy. I promise not to mention this again on the next show.

In the line of duty part two

I talked some more about Office Joe Bergeron's being killed in the line of duty. This time I talked about the funeral procession that headed right past my office. It was quite the stirring site.

I35 bridge collapse

On August 1, 2007, the I35W bridge spanning the Mississippi collapsed. It just so happened to be on the same day as my son's fourth birthday. (Astrologers, put your charts away! I don't buy astrology.) The reason I talked about was because of how, if you don't have cable, it is difficult to tell how national a local story is. A friend who was living in New Orleans at that time called. I wasn't sure if he knew about the incident. He was asking if everyone was ok, which everyone was, I asked why he was calling. He said. "A f@#&ing bridge just fell down in your city!"

Speaking of astrology

This was fun!

The night before my show, during Paradigm Shift (airing Friday nights at 10 central on Z Talk Radio), an intriguing thing occurred. Chatters attempted to guess my sign. Three guessed Taurus right away. I'm not Taurus. Then they proceeded to guess. And guess and guess and guess. They went through eleven signs (for those who don't know, there are twelve) never guessing my sign, which is Scorpio.

I thought the whole process was very telling of the accuracy of astrology. I'm sure believers will disagree anyway. I thought it was fun.

Twins win! Twins win!

And I saw it. I get a very limited amount of MN Twins games that I can watch on the TV and, prior to the Sunday before this show, they lost every game I watched. Well, they finally won a Sunday afternoon game and I watched it happen.

I reminded my listeners that the next day was Mother's Day and that, if they still had them, they should call their mothers. Thanks, Moms, for everything you do!
