Pedantic Moment: Pres. Trump A Nowhere Man?

Do those lyrics seem off to you? They do? That's because the person who put this image together had to make a change in order for this to be insulting toward the President. There are a couple lines that have been changed, but the one that had to be changed for sure was, "Isn't he a bit like you and me?"

 

What?! Oh, no. This is supposed to insult him, not suggest he would have anything in common with us.

It Was The Short Change Scam

 

While in line at the register at the grocery store, a fellow in front of me pulled off the Short Change Scam on the young, inexperienced cashier. I wasn't paying attention as the scam began, but I did eventually see something was up. I wasn't able to stop it and I'm not sure how I would, but I did speak up for the kid with his manager.

A Cool Coincidence

 

I believe in coincidences. I don't think the universe is trying to tell me something when I think of a particular TV show theme song (Lost In Space) and, a couple days later, a friend asks if I can identify that same theme song. If the universe is trying to tell me something having to do with that theme, I have no idea what it could be.

 

It's Not True: KFC Can't Say "Chicken"

There's an odd conspiracy theory that been going around the internets every since Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants started calling themselves KFC in 1991. I spotted the meme above detailing the "real" reasons for the name change. KFC doesn't use chickens. No, they use "genetically manipulated organisms" (it was early on, so the meme maker probably hadn't heard the term genetically modified organisms yet), which the government says can't be called chicken.

 

For crying out loud. It's not true. On the KFC website the word "chicken" is used multiple times. And the original name is still at the top of every page.

Crisis Actors

 

Answer: No, it's not.

It's one of the newer conspiracy theories. The crisis actor. People who "they" send in to fake or over-dramatize major events, such as mass shootings. It's ridiculous and disrespectful and needlessly cruel to those whose lives have been ended or touched be these tragedies.

Top Three Cool Things Of The Week

Here's Three Cool Things from this week.

 

3) True, the stamp on the container is not giving an expiration date, but I still think it's cool that someone had a little fun with this 250 million year old sea salt.

 

2) I spotted this live concert video of Cheap Trick from 1977. It's nearly 22 minutes of some damn cool rock.

1) This will undoubtedly just be cool to me, but I've been encouraging old art school friends to post pictures from back in the day on Facebook. A few have shown up. Very cool!

Memes Talk

Really? A $2 jump from Regular to Plus? And, then, a one PENNY jump to Supreme?

Lots of commentary on a couple of photographic "memes" that I found on Facebook. One was an obvious fake in which someone tries to scare us about gas prices and why they are so high. I pointed out that the pricing scale shown does not adhere to reality.

The next "meme" I discussed was one that I created and hope to get to saturate the internet. It's a cat lady's car. I think it's pretty funny and I did a brilliant job on it. But then I would think that.

Not sure David Drake really said this.

The third "meme" I discussed relates the Titanic. Yes, I did talk about the Titanic last week, but I had more to say as related to this particular meme about the building of Noah's Ark and the building of the Titanic. My main thrust of my talk was that, when looking at the two vessels, the Titanic actually existed. I also got into more of the aspects about the whole Ark story.

Deconstructed Sgt. Peppers

I touched briefly on a very cool break down of The Beatles' song 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.' The song was recorded using a 4 track system and someone posted a video on YouTube separating the four tracks. Check it out, very cool.

I also mentioned another YouTube clip with a musician breaking down the opening chord of another terrific Beatles' tune, 'A Hard Day's Night.' Also very cool.

Movie Recommendation (Television Division): Nova: The Case For Ancient Astronauts (1977)

This was an assignment of sorts, rather than a recommendation. In 1977, PBS science program, Nova, ran a documentary examining, scientifically and skeptically, Erich von Daniken's ideas that space aliens came to earth in the distant past. The aliens came here, apparently, to help build pyramids and mate with us and who knows what else.

More Evidence Man Landed On The Moon

After a little talk about not swearing on my show, I even said "penis," I talked about some way cool images from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The photos show the landing sites of Apollo 12, 14, and 17. That led me to briefly talk about people not believing man has walked on the moon. Will this convince them? Probably not.

Cam Newton Name Count

A couple weeks ago (maybe three) the MN Vikings played the Carolina Panthers, that gave me the opportunity to put my theory of how sportscasters like to same certain players full names every time, instead of just the last name. Well, I was right, but I did notice that I may have been subject to some confirmation bias.

A Christmas Story

A riveting tale of six suckers, an child (me at about 8 years-old), and a mother's forcing the child to share. Find out what happens when a sucker goes missing.

The Beatles Sang What Now?


The album Rubber Soul saw the Beatles take a change in direction musically and lyrically. It also saw John Lennon write and sing a song with this lyric: "I rather see you dead, little girl than to be with other man." The song was "Run For Your Life."

Disturbing, eh? John pulled that line from an Elvis song, "Baby, Let's Play House." Some abandonment issues I guess.

Movie Recommendation: Bullitt (1968)


A gritty and gripping police drama starring Steve McQueen. Done in a pretty realistic fashion as far as police dramas go. Watch for that car chase. It's excellent.
